Jesmond Dene Badminton Club

We've been at it again.

We were approached by Jesmond Dene Badminton Club to assist them in taking their club forward. The club has been running for over 20 years and has never had an official brand for their club.

TheDesignOven set about creating a logo that would see them have a strong brand in the coming years and further establish themselves in the future as one of the best badminton clubs in Newcastle.

The club are leading the leagues of 3 of their competitions in the Northumberland leagues (two of which have definately been promoted this season). A fantastic achieveme...

Barcelona Football

What a photograph!

It is no wonder that Barcelona and Spain have become the best technical sides on the planet when you look at this!

A beautiful composition and even more stunning colouring captured by the photographer. The photo, which was submitted to the 2011 National Geographic Photographic Competition.

The photographc shows these 'aficianado' players competing on a pitch which has looks surreally and impossibly placed into the middle of the dense city suburbs of Barcelona.

The colour from the deep blue at the top coming down to the lime green of the pitch at the bottom exudes vibrance.

Well worth sharing!

Retro Poster from 2007

From (now way back in) 2007, this poster has been executed very well.

Although you might associate the use of circle vectors and paint daubs and splats with relatively amatuer designs in recent years, we think the use of depth has been incorporated very well into this particular poster.

The viewer is dragged into the center of the circle (we are wondering if it is deliberately reminiscent of an eye-ball) with the subtle use of the drop shadows with a top left light source. The shadows on the orange and red circles are the most dominant and provide real steps into the picture which drag you in.

Perhaps if this design was being made with modern trends the designer would reduce the prominence of the paint...

Alarm Clock

Ever been in a position of needing to be woken up but forgotten your alarm clock?

Well how about this for a handy little online app? It's an online alarm clock!

This online alarm clock will allow you to set your alarm (to the millisecond if you want) and then go off at said time all from the space of your browser!

How cool is that?

Another cool thing, they even give you the code to plug it in to your own designs! Nice.

Cheap Flooring

Are you aware of Pinterest?

Pinterest is a virtual pinboard to allow you to create great inspiration moodboards and share things that you like or are inspired by grouped by theme.

For the Home (an interest pinboard for ideas about home decoration) threw out a very random idea that we here at TDO thought was worth sharing...

Looking for an unusual flooring idea on a low budget? How about something for less that £1.50 per square metre. Literally using 144 pennies to fill the floor!

Very time consuming, and maybe a little cold on the feet on a morning... but in the right room...

Windsor Knot

Got an important client meeting coming up?

Make sure you impress with an exceptionally smart appearance when you turn up! Get your tie on correctly!

A smart appearance can give that professional first impression that can be the difference between you winning the pitch and not. How many times have you had a meeting where you have been put off by a bad first impression.

Give yourself a great chance of impressing by using the diagram above to tie that infamously difficult windsor knot!

Building Typography

These are the works of Omar Aqil.

The concept of these works is very simple, creating large buildings from big bold type letters. However, the delivery of these is superb.

The low level and subdued red lighting with purple / blue shadows helps to create a really blended image. Part of their appeal is definately the gradiented and low saturated colour scheme. It is remensicent of the flyer design that TheDesignOven created for a retail outlet SALE.

The designer, hailing from Pakistan, has obviously put alot of thought and consideration into the...

Spooky Lighting on old Church

Whilst stumbling this morning, this image cropped up.

Despite the image not being the most colourful, the most well exectuted or the best quality there is just something absolutely captivating about it.

The way the brightness of the raking light draws the viewer in even though it is bursting out really enticed us. There is a real intruige to the image.

Unfortunately didn't get the creators name, but very nice work none the less.
