French Bulldog Original Image

Last week we showed you our French Bulldog, which we incidentally incorrectly dubbed a pug only to be sharply corrected by our many Twitter followers ( thank you :D ), where we had photoshopped in TheDesignOven logo.

We had a little experiment on Friday afternoon for a little bit of fun, and we threw out psd into After Effects and started animating.

Albeit very short, our results are shown above, but we only had an afternoon!

We have just attempted to create an emerging light f...

Photoshop Pug Lighting Effect

TheDesignOven have been looking into lighting effects, in particular slow shutter and long exposure effects after we found some inspirational photography based around this.

The images above show the original photograph, part of the design process and the final result of the slow shutter photo of TDO's logo.

We have tried to create a soft glow around the dog and changed the light source for the image from top to top right, hopefully capturing the light and glow given from our added faux glowing light.

Isn't he cute!...

We are creating another site as an extension to a series we have ongoing here at TDO, and as we often do we flew off on a tangent in Photoshop and came up with this image.

It's nothing spectacular, but we did find it interesting enough to make a little blog post about it.

Very simple and can't have taken more than 5 minutes to do, but the concept can obviously be taken on and developed into something very creative indeed.

Got our creative minds ticking anyway.

Graphic Design Newcastle

Yesterday, we mentioned we were going to be looking into Long Exposure / Slow Shutter Photography as part of an ongoing project here at TheDesignOven.

Today, we bring you the first result of our research into creating the effects that we need.

We have created a concept of an advert TDO, with a floating slow shutter effect whereby the lighting makes up the text.

'Graphic Design Newcastle' is the text we have chosen for our first look into creating the effect, but we this is purely for our own benefi...

Long Exposure Photography

There are hundreds and hundreds of examples of Photoshop and Illustrator tutorials abour recreating long exposure photography lighting effects, but TheDesignOven asks... Can you really beat the real thing?

It is going to be the focus of our next series of illustrations for this blog.

It has long been something that has fascinated us. Lighting effects. The change of lighting in an image can dramatically alter an image to a huge degree. Many clients ask for photographs to be changed, with lighting effects added, particularly for eCommerce product shots. Subtle lighting can make products appear more appealing online, and more dramatic and energy filled lighting can make even the most static of ...

New York Architecture

Last month we showed you the ultimate house to buy in our blog article about the $25m apartment in New York.

This month, thanks to our friends over at The Cool Hunter, we have been educated on a less expensive, but equally impressive, alternative residence.

Well, adjudged by the title of where we came across this, this truly is... 'Cool'.

The brain child of Dean-Wolf Architects, a New York based company, is perfectly executed. A windowless warehouse which is filled with light bright spaces! Unbelievable brashness ...

Pencil Sketch Burn

Part 2 of our blog post showing off the work of Ben Heine's 'Pencil vs. Camera' series.

You can view Part 1 of our blog entry here.

The images shown above highlight more of the creative and illustrative qualities of the artist.

In particular, the photographer with the bursting camera is a brilliant image. You really are drawn into the artists mind through his lens, with an illustration of his imagination pouring from the camera lens.

The ants carrying the heart cut leaves along the wire is our ultimate favourite of the series however. Fascinating creatures ironically and beautifully detailed ...

Pencil Sketch over Photography

This mornings blog entry comes in two parts highlighting the fantastic work of Ben Heine.

Artist, Photographer and Illustrator, he is a man to admire. His portfolio of work is second to none.

In our part one of his 'Pencil vs. Camera' series we have shown 5 of our favourite images. You can view another 5 inspirational illustrations in Part 2 here.

Looking down the list of images, we were particularly impressed with the caricature of the two donkeys. The way he has brought their characters to life and the simplicity in which he has transferred the fur into pencil sketch (a very difficult skill) is particu...

Skyscraper Photography

Here is a collection of some really inspirational photos discovered from a link on Twitter. (You can follow TDO on Twitter here).

The cover image of the legs hanging over the skyscraper is breathtaking. The angles running down truly captivate the viewer, but that breaking line directly through the centre of the road keeps your eye moving around. Its very engrossing. We love it.

The 3 landscape photography shots must have been a sight to behold, and we can only congratulate the photographers (and thank them) and capturing such beautiful imagery.

The image of the man and boy together is based in Nepal, and the way the l...

Clock Tower Penthouse Apartment

As announced on TheDesignOven's twitter feed on Friday, we wanted you to know what we would buy if we had a spare $25million.

An unbelieveable loft conversion in an old abandonded warehouse in New York City.

What a stunning project, beautifully designed and perfectly executed. In a city that we absolutely love with design inspiration around every corner, what better way could you spend the time then looking through a clock face over the Brooklyn Bridge. 100% stunning.

This place must have been a dream job for an interior architect in the Big Apple. They have created an almost blank canvas with modern interiors and...

In looking for a Chameleon for a project that we are working on, we just happened to stumble across this absolutely gorgeous photo.

If you clicked on the link above before getting down to this part of the text, no doubt you probably won't be finishing reading this until 20 minutes later, as the site is brimming with captivating photos that just keep making you press the next button!

Some particular favourites of ours, if you stumble across them, was Usian Bolt holding a baby Cheetah, an amazing capture of a racoon poking its head out of a tree as well a...
